A ninth grader in Irving near Dallas arrested after taking a homemade clock to school has been invited by President Obama to the White House, reports ABC News.
The 14-year-old Muslim boy thought he would impress his teachers with the clock. Instead, police accused Ahmed Mohamed of trying to make a bomb.
Officers interrogated Mohamed and he was taken to the juvenile detention facility.
“They were like, ‘So you tried to make a bomb?’” Ahmed said.

Mohamed told them he had tried to make a clock.
Police defended their arrest early Wednesday.
“He kept maintaining it was a clock, but there was no broader explanation,” said police spokesman James McLellan.
Irving’s Police Chief later announced the charges would not be filed, according to the Dallas Morning News.
“The follow-up investigation revealed the device apparently was a homemade experiment, and there’s no evidence to support the perception he intended to create alarm,” Chief Larry Boyd said.
Since word of his arrest surfaced, support for Mohamed has been overwhelming.
