New Center for Early China at Columbia Named for Asian American Philanthropist

Oscar L. Tang, a private investor and philanthropist, and his archaeologist wife, Dr. Agnes Hsu-Tang, Ph.D., host of the Mysteries of China archaeology series on History Channel Asia, have donated a $5 million endowment gift to Columbia University and its Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures towards the creation of the Tang Center for Early China.

The Tang Center for Early China was officially inaugurated in the Low Library at Columbia University in the City of New York on October 2, 2015.  Remarks were made by John H. Coatsworth, Provost of the University and the honorable Kevin Rudd, former Prime Minister of Australia and current President of Asia Society Policy Institute.  Oscar L. Tang, Dr. Agnes Hsu-Tang , and Haruo Shirane, Chair of the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Columbia  University also gave presentations.
