Studies analyzing dating sites have found that Asian men and Black women have one major thing in common when it comes to dating–both are considered by many to be unattractive, reports Vice.
Asian men have been feminized by the media and Black women are considered masculine. Both rank low in desirability indexes taken from information gleamed from dating sites. Both also belong to communities where there’s a high interracial marriage rate of the opposite sex.
Readers of this blog are well aware that the interracial marriage rate of Asian American women far outpaces Asian American men, but they may not be aware the interracial marriage rate of Black men is 24 percent compared to nine percent of Black women newlyweds.
The Facebook group AMBW (Asian Men & Black Women) seeks to bring both groups together. In New York city, group members host regular meet ups.
“[The Asian man] is a domestic dad, that gentle soul,” said Rhea Alexander who runs the site AMBW for Life. “He is unmoved, he is unbothered… He understands his own struggle as an Asian man, and his pressure to conform to white standards. That is what I believe is the invisible magnet between Asian men and black women.”
“[This is] a much more welcoming environment for Asian men,” said Ron, the group administrator. “A lot of Asian men are sometimes afraid to approach women because they’re so used to getting rejected. “The girl-to-guy ratio at these events is usually disproportionate (16:6), so the Asian guys get a lot of attention. “There are definitely some crazy ‘cougars’ in this group,” Kemi told me. “When they get a look at you and how young you are, they are going to jump all over you.”
