New Sitcom to be Based on Bollywood Star Madhuri Dixit’s Life in U.S.

Madhuri Dixit

ABC and actress Priyanka Chopra (Quantico and Baywatch) will be collaborating to produce an American sitcom based on the life of Bollywood star Madhuri Dixit, reports Vanity Fair.

For those who don’t follow Bollywood cinema, 50-year-old Dixit is one of the most critically acclaimed actresses in India. Throughout her career, she has won six Filmfare Awards (similar to the Oscars) and has received positive reviews for nearly all of her movies. In 2008 she was awarded the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian honor in India.

From 2002 until 2007, Dixit lived in Denver, Colorado after marrying her American husband Shriram Nene. Here, she was able to live an ordinary suburban lifestyle—a big change from being a celebrity in India.

“When I was with my family in Denver I was happy being unknown,” Dixit told Rediff in 2014. “I enjoyed being on my own and taking my car out for grocery shopping ― I loved doing that ― taking my kids to school, dropping them off, picking them up.”

The TV series will be based on these years of Dixit’s life as she attempts to bring some excitement to an ordinary neighborhood with residents who are completely unaware of how famous she really is outside of the United States.

Dixit, her husband, and Chopra will all serve as executive producers. Writer Sri Rao will be responsible for the pilot.
