Director M. Night Shyamalan recently revealed that his upcoming film, Glass, starring Bruce Willis, was originally more than three hours long, Cinema Blend reports.

“The script was really long, it was almost 150 pages and the first cut of the movie was 3 hours and 20 minutes, it was really long. Then it started tightening [and] tightening until we got to the 2.08 that you can see.”

For those that are unfamiliar with the film, Glass is serving as a sequel to both Unbreakable and Split.

As a sequel to two film, Glass has the task of trying to continue not one but two story lines as well as establish a connection between them as well.

Shyamalan cites the initial idea of trying to explain the plot of both movies to audience members who had seen neither as the reason for such a long original cut.

Eventually he decided to focus on more on moving the story forward with the hopes that the audience will eventually understand what is happening.  In his pitch, he also wanted to move forward with the idea that film can also act as a stand alone movie as well.

“‘Pretend there’s no previous movies and I came to you and I said that I want to make a movie about a hospital that treats people who believe they’re superheroes and three of their patients escape.’ I want to make you that movie, will you make that movie?”  the director said in account taken by The AV Club.

Starring  Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, James McAvoy, and Sarah Paulson, Glass will be in theaters January 18, 2019.
