An Indiana man appeared in federal court Wednesday accused of plotting to hire a hit man to kill his wife, reports My Central Jersey.
His ex-girlfriend is also accused in the alleged scheme and appeared in court a day earlier.
Narsan Lingala, 55, and Sandya Reddy, 52, are both in custody being held on attempted murder for hire charges.
The two were arrested on local charges five months ago, but the case is now being handled by federal authorities.
Prosecutors say Lingala was being held in a holding cell awaiting a hearing when he approached another inmate asking if he knew a hit man to kill his ex-wife. That inmate agreed to cooperate with authorities and introduced Lingala to an undercover agent posing as a hit man.
“I want that woman (his former wife) to be out of my life … totally. Never again. She never comes back,” Lingala allegedly said, according to Tribune India.
Lingala filed for divorce in 2011 after more than 15 years of marriage. The two have unsuccessfully tried to come to financial terms. Lingala is said to have showed the hitman photos of inside and outside his former wife’s home and Reddy is accused of providing information about the intended victim.
The two also discussed what they would pay the hitman to carry out the killing. The two if convicted could face ten years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
