Man Accused of Attacking Asian Woman in NYC Pleads Not Guilty

The man accused of kicking a Filipina woman while she was on her way to church in New York City pleaded not guilty to hate crime charges Monday, PIX11 reports.

Police say 38-year-old Brandon Elliot stomped on a Filipina women’s 65-year-old Filipino woman’s head outside a Midtown apartment building on March 29. Elliot was indicted on hate crime charges Monday, April 10.

The victim, Vilma Kari, suffered a fractured pelvis, contusions to her head and a cracked rib, New York Daily News reports.

Elliot has several past arrests, according to PIX11. In 2002, he was arrested for stabbing his mother and sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Elliot is currently being held at Anna M. Kross Correctional Facility at the Rikers Island jail complex. His bail is set at $1 million bond or $500,000 cash.
