California budgets $14 million to stop Asian hate

The state of California today announced the funding of $14 million dollars to go to 75 organizations with the goal of stopping hate.

The money will provide direct services for victims and survivors of hate incidents and their families along with legal services, mental heath treatments, cross-racial alliance, safety planning and training. Additional money is going to groups working in the arts and with youth and seniors.

The biggest grant went to Asian Health Services which received $543,000 to use over the next year.

The Civil Rights, Accessibility and Racial Equity (CARE) Office of the Department of Social Services also announced an award of $475,000 to the Central Health Foundation in the Central Valley. In addition, it awarded grants of $250,000 to the California Healthy Nail Salon Collaborative, Chinese Progressive Association, Community Youth Center of San Francisco, Korean Community Center of the East Bay, Mental Health Association for Chinese Communities, Self Help for the Elderly, Step Forward Foundation, Union of Pan Asian Communities, Special Services for Groups, the Information and Referral Federation of Los Angeles County, and Southland Integration Services.

Other grants ranged from $50,000 to $245,000.
