An engaged couple is speaking out for the first time about the bullet fired through their window as they drove down Interstate 580 in San Leandro near San Francisco.
Dashcam video shows glass fragments flying into the face of Tina Do as she sat in the passenger front seat. Her fiance Garrett Mason can be heard trying to comfort her from the driver’s seat and urging her to promptly call 911.
The couple told ABC7 they were caught in the crossfire between two other vehicles.
“He heard a few rounds at that point and when it hit the front windshield- I thought it was a rock. I didn’t know it was a bullet at all. I was literally feeling my body making sure nothing else was hurt. We had minor scratches,” Do said.
This happened on June 14 at 5pm, but they are just now feeling they can talk about this publicly.
The Highway Patrol says in the last four years there have been 80 shootings on Bay Area freeways.
The couple feels lucky they escaped uninjured.
Among the freeway shooting victims is 2-year-old Jasper Wu, shot to death while his family drove down 880 in Oakland this past November.
“I saw the bullet hole right in the windshield and how it just went past me,” Do said to NBC Bay Area. “Knowing my family and friends are out here and we didn’t do anything wrong to deserve this.”
