Deadline recently reported that it has heard rumors that an anime spin-off of the Rocky film franchise could be in the works.
The spin-off would be an animated series related to the franchise’s IP. According to Deadline, the “details are sketchy” because “conversations are still in exploratory stages.”
Rocky is a film franchise that follows the life and career of fictional boxer Rocky Balboa, played by Sylvester Stallone. Its most recent and successful spin-offs have been the Creed films which follow Adonis Johnson, played by Michael B. Jordan. Johnson is the son of Apollo Creed, an old opponent and friend of Rocky’s who Rocky trains to fight.
The third film, Creed III, premiered in theaters on March 3. It was directed by Michael B. Jordan who said the fight scenes were influenced by anime.
“So we shot all the fights in IMAX. And also, I had a huge Japanese anime influence on a lot of my fights. I’m an anime nerd,” Jordan said during an interview with Jimmy Fallon.
