‘Elemental’ chosen as closing film at Cannes Film Festival

The Cannes Film Festival has chosen Disney and Pixar’s new film Elemental to be the closing film at the festival.

According to Elemental will be screened on May 27 at Cannes, ahead of its June 16 theatrical release. It is the fourth film from Pixar to debut at Cannes. The previous three films were “Up,” “Inside Out” and “Soul.”

The movie is set in a place called Element City, where the elements (air, fire, water and earth) live and work. Leah Lewis and Mamoudou Athie will voice Ember and Wade in the film.

Pete Docter, Pixar’s chief creative officer, said they are excited to return to Cannes this year.

“As we all emerge from our pandemic cocoons and come together in story rooms, animation dailies and impromptu brainstorming sessions, it’s a joy and honor to have Pixar back on La Croisette,” said Docter in a press release. “Directed by the extraordinary storyteller Peter Sohn, ‘Elemental’ is so funny, full of heart and, frankly, stunning to see. It was created for audiences to experience on the big screen and I love that it’ll make its world premiere at Cannes.”
