Heart surgeon killed in road rage incident in New York remembered

A heart surgeon who died after being punched in a road rage incident is described as a “devoted father, loving husband, loyal friend, and gifted surgeon.”

An obituary posted in a tribute book published by his family said 56-year-old Jaime Yun died of a brain injury eight days after the June 8th incident in New York.

“Jaime’s pride was raising his children and helping people,” the family wrote.

Remembrances left by friends seemed to confirm that.

“Always quick with a laugh or sharing his wisdom gently yet confidently, he will be fondly remembered for his generous nature as well as his immense intellect and dedication to his work,” said Ja Lee.

He attended New York University Medical School to become a cardiothoracic surgeon. Classmates nicknamed him “99” because he usually scored in the 99th percentile in his class. His wife Tyan has been literally a lifelong friend since the two met in middle school and eventually tutored her in calculus.

“Jaime’s passion, humor and positivity will live on in this life through all of you. He immediately influenced whomever he met including all of us. No one could be near Jaime for long and not be in a good mood,” said The Eisner’s, Placek’s and McHugh’s.

He is survived by his wife, Tyan; his children Christopher and Lauren; his five brothers, Alfonso, Julio, Enrique, Fernando and Jairo, their wives and several nieces and nephews.

His death has been ruled a homicide by the medical examiner. The New York Post reports it’s not known if the assault charge against Dexter Alexander, 31, will be upgraded.

A medical school classmate Sang Lee said he lost a his “dearest friend and brother.”

“Medical school was tough but bearable because of Jaime,” said Lee. ” Jaime was a genuine person who showed unwavering friendship. I will miss Jaime’s smile, sense of humor and love of gossip. I will forever be grateful to Jaime for introducing me to the love of my life, my wife, Crystal. I love you Jaime. I will miss you brother. May you rest in peace. You will never be forgotten.”
