They are queer. They are Asian, but they don’t look anything alike.
That didn’t prevent The Hollywood Reporter from mixing Bowen Yang and Joel Kim Booster up. In a recent article, the publication described Booster as a Saturday Night Live cast member. Of course, it’s Yang who’s the Saturday Night Live regular, not Kim.
Booster had fun with the mix-up, tweeting “it’s so weird and draining to realize just how many people scan us and stop collecting data beyond our race and sexuality. Freaks stay away from us.”
The gay publication, Out Magazine, also called out the Hollywood Reporter. In so doing, it too mixed up the two comedians saying Booster and Kim continue to be the two funniest comedians working today. Booster and Kim are the same person.
“Still, as a queer Asian person, it was especially exasperating to witness a writer getting these comedians’ names wrong, especially when Yang and Booster are so beloved by our community — and the Out piece was supposed to be in their defense,” wrote Ian Kumamoto for the HuffPost.
Yang also addressed the mix up on his podcast, Las Culturistas with Matt Rogers.
“Also I Don’t Think So Honey Hollywood Reporter for still confusing me and Joel Kim Booster in an article- An article that is reporting on racism,” he said, reported Out.
