DMV opens in Chicago’s Chinatown

On Monday, the first-ever “express” DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) opened in Chicago’s Chinatown, CBS News reports.

According to ABC 7 Chicago, it is also the first-ever secretary of state facility in the area. The building is located at 2250 South Canal Street.

The goal of the DMV is to ease the process for residents in the area. According to NBC Chicago, no appointments will be necessary for several services.

Community members gathered on Monday to celebrate the opening. Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias also made an appearance to cut the ribbon.

“For too long, customers on Chicago’s bustling South Side have had to travel to other areas of the city and suburbs to obtain services that our office provides,” Giannoulias said per ABC 7 Chicago.
