AAPIs now make up 10 percent of Anchorage’s population.
Chinese and Japanese workers originally came to Alaska in the 1890s. Today half the Asian population is Filipino. The Korean, Hmong and Lao population in Alaska is larger than in the US as a whole.
Pacific Islanders also have a strong influence in Alaska.
