An indictment has been handed down against a sheriff deputy in a drug raid that left a toddler critically injured, reports CNN.
The home of Alecia and Bounkham Phonesavanh was raided by sheriff deputies in Habersham County, Georgia. The deputies threw a flash grenade which landed in the crib where the toddler was sleeping.
Authorities say the raid would never have been approved without false statements made by Deputy Sheriff Nikki Autry.
“Without her false statements, there was no probable cause to search the premises for drugs or to make the arrests,” acting U.S. Attorney John Horn said in a release.
