Filming is underway on perhaps the most widely anticipated film by Asian Americans and Asians worldwide in years, Crazy Rich Asians.
The movie from Warner Bros. Pictures and director Jon Chu (Now You See Me 2) is based on the bestseller from Kevin Kwan.
Much of the international all-Asian cast has been previously announced, but a few new names have emerged.
Ronny Chieng from The Daily Show will join the ensemble cast along with Chris Pang (Marco Polo), Sonoya Mizuno (La La Land), Jing Lusi (Stan Lee’s Lucky Man, and Singaporean actors Pierre Png, Fiona Xie and Tan Kheng Hua.
Asian American rapper Awkwafina (Ocean’s 8, Neighbors 2) and Gemma Chan (Humans) also will also appear.
Crazy Rich Asians is the story of native New Yorker Rachel Chu (Constance Wu of Fresh Off the Boat) and her relationship with longtime boyfriend Nick Young (Henry Golding). As the two travel to Nick’s best friend’s wedding in Singapore, she learns for the first time that he is part of one of the country’s wealthiest families and quite a magnet for eligible bachelorettes. Rachel not only has to deal with Nick’s disapproving mother (Michelle Yeoh), but jealous socialites vying for Nick’s attention and love.
