The buzz and excitement over casting an Asian American woman to star in a reboot of Greatest American Hero wasn’t enough for the show to go forward.
Hannah Simone announced on Twitter that ABC would not pick up the show.

Simone, whose father is Indian American and mother is German, Italian and Greek was set to star in the role originally played by William Katt in the 80’s.  According to Comicbook.com, the whimsical action comedy would have featured Simone as Meera, a superhero who specialized in drinking tequila and singing karaoke.

Den of Geek
reports Simone’s hope is that another outlet will pick up the series. She is best known as Cece in New Girl.

In other TV news, Designated Survivor has been cancelled two years after debuting with much fanfare and promise, reported Deadline.

The political drama featured two Asian American regulars, Maggie Q as an FBI agent and Kal Penn as a presidential speechwriter.

The news came out on the same day that Priyanka Chopra’s Quantico was also cancelled after three seasons.

Penn immediately looked forward to his next gig.

Chopra says she’s all in on the idea.

Penn didn’t stop there. He then brought in John Cho into the conversation.

Cho too didn’t hesitate to accept the offer.

That lead some fans to speculate that Penn and Cho would return to their roles as Harold and Kumar in the popular comedy franchise.
