Anti-Muslim Graffiti under investigation in Connecticut

CATEGORIES

Volunteers this weekend cleaned up anti-Muslim graffiti that defaced a Halal butcher shop in Bloomfield, CT, reports NBC Connecticut.

Messages such as “cease the needless slaughter” and “Muslims go home” were left on either side of the shop’s north entrance.

“Specifically, what we were scared of is somebody coming out and saying ‘Muslims go home.’ This is our own and we’re not going anyplace. That’s why we’re here today to help out the business,” Executive Director of Council of American-Islamic Relations Connecticut Tark Aouadi said. “Small business, great people just trying to make it.”

The messages left follows the slaughter of a runaway cow from the butcher shop a month ago. Three employees chased the cow and slit its throat behind a Home Depot.

Saba Live Poultry has been closed since the July 13 incident. The owner declined to file a complaint after the graffiti incident, but police said they would continue to investigate anyway, reported the Hartford Courant.

Police arrested the employee who killed the cow on charges of animal cruelty. That incident sparked protest from animal rights activists.
