Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.), Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) and a group of House lawmakers have drafted a resolution that condemns the Chinese government’s handling of the COVID-19 Outbreak, The Hill reports.
The resolution criticizes China for making “multiple, serious mistakes” in response to the novel coronavirus. According to The Huffington Post, those mistakes include “downplaying the risks of the virus, censoring medical professionals and expelling journalists.” The resolution also asks China to “publicly state that there’s no evidence that COVID–19 originated anywhere else but China.”
Nearly two dozen Republicans have signed the resolution, according to The Hill. Rep. Moulton is the only Democrat to have signed the resolution so far
According to The Huffington Post, both the Center for Disease Control and the World Health Organization have warned against associating a disease against a geographic region. They say doing so could lead to stigma, discrimination and violence against groups of people.
Lawmakers on Capitol Hill have already referred to COVID-19 as the “Wuhan Virus.” President Trump has been condemned for repeatedly referring to the novel coronavirus as the “Chinese virus.”
As the “Chinese virus” rhetoric continues, Asian Americans across the country have reported an uptick in racist attacks.

These repugnicans are childish and wasting our hard earned tax money. Who are they to act like arrogant and angry parents shaming a child for having a fever and doing what it takes to get better. All this blame and it’s your fault childish behavior is rump and his boys. No other country is stooping so low. If they want to admonish anyone’s behavior around this pandemic, they need to turn their attention to their own shameful not-a-leader.
RE: House resolution condemns China’s handling of COVID-19 outbreak: There’s nothing wrong or racist about recognizing the fact that the Chinese Communist Party is at fault for failing to contain this outbreak. Of course, the trouble is that many people are incapable of grasping the nuance that Chinese people/Asians in general =/= CPC.
