Maitreyi Ramakrishnan Becomes 2nd South Asian To Feature On Teen Vogue Cover

19-year-old Never Have I Ever star Maitreyi Ramakrishnan made history as the second South Asian featured on a Teen Vogue cover, Koimoi reports.

The first was Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai.

“I set an alarm to wake up and post because yes, I was that excited about this cover for @teenvogue,” Ramakrishnan said in an Instagram Post.

Verma Sharma, the first-ever South Asian American editor-in-chief of Teen Vogue felt ecstatic to feature Ramakrishnan.

“My first cover for @teenvogue is here and I could not be happier that it’s @maitreyiramakrishnan, rising star and hilarious talent, looking extra fashionable, surrounded by books,” Sharma said. “It’s classic brown girl vibes + back to school all in one.”

Sharma feels joy that Ramakrishnan is allowing South Asian audiences to see themselves portrayed on a television screen.

Alongside Teen Vogue, Bollywood Hungama reports that Ramakrishnan has been featured on the covers of other prominent magazines such as Seventeen and Entertainment Weekly.

The second season of Never Have I Ever released on July 15. The release of the new season boosted the show to the top 10 lists for over 70 countries around the world, even being placed number one in some locations, What’s on Netflix reports.

Despite the rise in popularity for the show, a renewal for a third season has yet to be confirmed just yet.
