Man pleads not guilty in brutal beating of two sisters

A man accused of beating two Korean American sisters in Baltimore with a cinderblock entered a plea Thursday of “not criminally responsible,” WJZ reported.

The beating occurred as the two women tried to close their store for the day back in May.

A grand jury in June indicted Daryl Doles on 22 counts of attempted murder of several Asian American business owners and other criminal offenses on May 2.

Surveillance video showed a suspect forcing his way into the store and using a cinderblock to beat a woman who tried to stop him. The suspect also beat her sister after she tried to intervene.

Police arrested Dole several days later.

Citing charging documents, WJZ reports Doles is accused of attacking three separate West Baltimore businesses in less than 30 minutes.

Prosecutors say the crime spree started at a liquor store when Doles upset at being denied service for refusing to wear a mask, returned with a piece of lumber to attack a security guard.

Ten minutes later he allegedly entered a second liquor store also owned by an Asian American business to vandalize a window display and scream racial slurs.

Then minutes later, he allegedly attacked the two sisters at a third liquor store with a cinderblock.

Dole faces hate crime charges.

A Go Fund Me campaign raised more than $84,000 to help pay for medical bills for the two sisters.
