For the first time Pixar is releasing an Asian-themed film, reports the Strait Times.
Sanjay’s Super Team will be released as a short to be shown right before its next feature film, The Good Dinosaur, which is set to premiere on November 25.
The short is directed by Sanjay Patel and is based on Patel’s childhood. It combines his love for super heroes with the Hindu upbringing of his immigrant parents.
“We don’t go in with the idea that we want to do a film about a certain group or place,” said Pixar president Jim Morris. “But if a director really has a good story to tell, then we would definitely be open to making a film about that.”
It is interesting that Sanjay’s Super Team is being paired with The Good Dinosaur. That movie is being directed by Korean American Peter Sohn.

According to Pixar Sohn got involved in animation because his immigrant parents couldn’t understand American films, but they could understand animated films such as Dumbo.
Work on the film began in 2009, but has experienced numerous delays. You can read about that in the Strait Times.
