Celebrity You Tubers who monetized their international adoption rehome their son

Popular YouTuber Myka Stauffer tearfully took to social media to announce that they have rehomed their adopted son from China to another couple.

Myka and James Stauffer adopted Huxley in 2017 and frequented shared video of their son throughout their journey.

Their son would later be diagnosed with autism and the couple found their child increasingly difficult to care and raise him.

“Do I feel like a failure as a mom? Like 500 percent,” Myka said tearfully.

The couple’s decision has opened them up to criticism while others are supporting them for doing what they felt was best for Huxley.

Rehoming is a controversial practice. The term actually originated when adopted pets would be given away. Most rehoming of children occurs after international adoptions and without legal oversight or authorization. Some children rehomed have ended being rehomed to sexual predators or abusive parents, according to numerous reports.

Several efforts are underway to regulate rehoming. According to Adoptions from the Heart, laws already in place to protect the children are not being enforced.

The US State Department reports that in 2018 there were 81,000 adoptions from China in the U.S., by far more than any other country. 6200 adoptions were from India and more than 20,000 from Korea.
