Soccer phenom Casey Phair, the youngest player in the history of the Women’s World Cup, has signed a three-year deal with Angel City FC in Los Angeles, news reports said Thursday.
“The first time I came to Los Angeles was last September,” Phair said, according to the Los Angeles Daily News. “I trained with Angel City and fell in love with the culture and L.A. All of the players were super welcoming and I really enjoyed everything about the city.”
Phair, 16, made her international debut at the 2023 World Cup, playing for South Korea. The daughter of an American father and South Korean mother, Phair was born in South Korea and grew up in New Jersey. She also holds the distinction of being the first multiracial player, male or female, to appear in a World Cup for South Korea, according to ESPN.
While touring L.A., she also visited K-Town for the first time, she told the Angel City FC website. “It’s so big – it took 15 minutes just to get across! Obviously I come from a Korean family, so to have that so close is so nice.”
“And then also to play in front of the Korean fans here,” she said. “I’ve never been to a game, but everyone told me [Angel City] fans are amazing. I think that’s what I’m most excited for.”
